Handicaps
The EGCRs monthly tournament is a handicapped tournament. Players who have a club handicap can compete for the prize pool and Club Championship points. Handicaps are adjusted after each monthly tournament. If you are interested in establishing a club handicap, speak with one of the club officers.
There are now handicaps for both an 18-hole round and a 27-hole round. Once you have played in a 27-hole monthly tournament, you are given a 27-hole handicap that is tracked separately from your 18-hole handicap. If you have never completed a 27-hole tournament, then your 27-hole handicap is calculated according to a formula based on your 18-hole handicap.

* Players who have only completed one round may use their handicap, but if their net score is below par, they will only receive a par score for that round.
** Players who have a “scratch” handicap or have never completed a monthly tournament have no handicap and may use their actual score. However, if they shoot below par, they will only receive a par score for that round.
NOTE: These handicaps are posted for the convenience of the players. Errors and typos may occur. The official handicaps are maintained by the club and available at each Monthly tournament. If you have a question about the handicaps, please contact us by using the form on the Contact Us page.
Handicap Methodology:
Handicaps are calculated according to the following formula:
(Average of best half of players scores MINUS par for course) TIMES 80%
The result is rounded up or down to the nearest whole number. If the result is a negative number (meaning the player shots below par) then the handicap is ADDed after a round. If the result is a positive number, the handicap is SUBtracted from the score.
If the player has played an odd number of rounds, then the number of scores used for the handicap is rounded down. For example, if a player has completed five rounds, only their two best scores are used for the handicap.
If a player has any reason to question their handicap or the handicap of another player, they may request to see the handicap spreadsheet that is used to calculate all handicaps.
Example:
Bucky has completed 7 tournament rounds (27 holes) with scores of 83, 79, 80, 75, 78, 79, and 81. His scores of 75, 78 and 79 are used to calculate his handicap.
Average (75, 78, 79) = 77.33
77.33 - 81 = -3.67
-3.67 x .8 = -2.94
Rounded (-2.94) = -3
So Bucky is given a handicap of ADD 3.
